When Motivation Fails, Systems Win
What do you do when you feel uninspired or stuck?
Last week, I shared my personal experience with feeling uninspired.
I had a podcast to record, but I really didn’t feel like “showing up.”
If you missed it, you can read it here.
Eventually, I found some inspiration as I combed through my idea bank.
But what if I didn’t have an idea bank?
A long time ago, I came across a video by a creator who explained why everyone should have an idea bank as a system for storing great ideas.
They spoke about how this, like many other systems, can be important on days when the human part of any process is weak.
The systems you create today are not for the days when everything is going smoothly.
They are for the days when human motivation alone won’t cut it.
I've heard so many people complicate the concept of systems, but you don't have to.
The goal is to create something that works.
In my example, I keep an idea bank of content for the podcast and newsletter.
When I’m inspired, I write it down because I know a day will come when I don’t have a fresh idea.
It's like a savings account for my ideas.
Your situation might be very different from mine.
For you, your system might be a set of reminders on your phone to take a daily action.
It could even be a weekly phone call with a friend to hold you accountable for something you committed to.
Human will, motivation, and inspiration are not always constant.
Systems are your failsafe for those days.
It is wisdom to plan for days when you won’t feel like it.
And I hope on the day when you need it the most, you have something to fall back on.
Rooting for you always!
