Write Like Your Life Depends On It
There are very few smart people who don’t write a lot.
Most of those we respect and look up to in society today spend time writing.
And not just writing for their careers or profession. They write down their ideas, thoughts, insights, etc.
Writing is a skill that makes the best become exceptional.
With well-written words, you can move nations and win hearts. (Think politicians and musicians)
There are roles in marketing focused on crafting messages that get people to take action.
Ads, movies, speeches, restaurants, etc, carefully combine words to make you take specific actions or feel a certain emotion.
In my opinion, the skill of writing is a hidden superpower.
We all have it, but most of us never develop it.
In the last 8 months of writing this newsletter and intentionally improving, I observed that writing has:
- Improved my ability to express myself
- Helped clarify my thoughts
- Increased my confidence.
Many of those who are intentional about writing will tell you the same thing: Becoming a better writer will change your life.
Here are three practical steps you can take today to improve your writing:
1. Read quality content
The higher the quality of written content you consume, the better your writing becomes.
Find written content around your interests and read as much as you can consistently.
2. Practice consistently
Whatever you practice consistently will improve. Find opportunities to practice and never stop. P.S. You can keep a daily/weekly journal in the notes app on your phone.
3. Write publicly
The fastest way to improve your writing is to get feedback, and you can’t get that feedback if you don’t share your work. Write to people, for people, and with people!
The goal of this week's newsletter is to encourage you to become intentional about improving your writing.
I hope I achieved just that.
If you'd like to hear more about this, watch this week's podcast episode here.
Till next Saturday.
Rooting for you always!
