π‘ Thought: Continuous Learning is the secret sauce
A couple of weeks ago I attended a work conference.
Your typical gathering of professionals. Nothing out of the ordinary.
The highlight of that event was the keynote delivered by an interesting speaker.
And something he mentioned in passing stuck with me.
He shared the results of a survey of top performers across 30 industries completed by one of the Big 4 consulting companies
The results were unexpected.
Surprisingly, the most common skill they identified as a major factor in their success wasnβt hard work, diligence, or attention to detail.
It was continuous learning.
They all believed that their success resulted from their intentionality to improve over time.
As soon as I heard this, I immediately thought: I can reverse engineer this!
By being intentional about continuously improving ourselves, we can become a top performer.
One thing I want to point out is the idea that most people have of becoming their best selves.
And there is a temptation to think by continuously learning you can become your best self.
However, let's be clear.
The best version of yourself does not exist. But a better one does.
Let me explain.
By improving consistently you become better.
But there will always be room for improvement.
If you chase perfection you wonβt make any progress.
Rather than focus on becoming your best self, I encourage you to become better.
Better today than you were yesterday and better tomorrow than you are today.
So read a book, watch a podcast, plan the next year, take a course, talk to an expert, go on a walk.
Figure out what you need to do to become better today. Do something.
No one else can take responsibility for your personal growth.
Commit to consistently improving yourself...Your future depends on it.
