Stop robbing the world!

Hi, it’s Oba.

In this issue, we discuss how you rob the world by not expressing yourself.

👀 Random finds: Large-heart blue whales 🐳

Blue whales have the largest hearts in the world. They weigh 400lbs and their heartbeats can be heard from over two miles away. This is mind-blowing! 🤯

💡 Thought: Self-expression is a gift, not a selfish act

Many of us have a weird relationship with self-expression.

We believe it's a selfish act of self-promotion and shy away from:

  • Contributing our ideas
  • Conveying our opinions
  • Communicating our thoughts

All of these examples have one theme in common.

They are forms of giving, not receiving. Yet many of us believe self-expression is selfish.

Let’s take a closer look at why most people choose not to express themselves.

In my opinion, it boils down to these three things:

  1. Fear of rejection
  2. Lack of self-confidence
  3. Uncertain identity

1. Fear of Rejection

Most of us are afraid that if we share our ideas they might not be received by others.

We are focused on metrics such as likes, views, subscribers, etc.

Don’t get me wrong, these are important!

But, they can’t be the main driver behind the desire to express ourselves.

The main goal of your self-expression is not to get the approval of others.

If their approval makes you, their rejection will break you.

2. Lack of Self-confidence

Some shy away from expressing themselves because they don't believe they are valuable.

I used to think this way until a friend helped me realize I was focused on the wrong things.

Instead of comparing yourself with others, focus on your unique advantage.

Your experiences, stories, and journeys in life make you unique and valuable.

Comparing yourself to someone else would be like comparing an apple with broccoli. It makes no sense.

Your value is in your unique advantage. You are one of one.

3. Uncertain Identity

Most people haven’t spent the time to answer the question “Who am I?”

We’ve taken on the opinions of others and created an identity around who they expect us to be.

But deep down we know this identity is false and this limits our self-expression.

Take the time to explore your values, interests, beliefs, and emotions. Develop a better understanding of who you are.

You can't express yourself authentically if you don't know who you are.

There is someone out in the world who can benefit from what you have to offer.

By holding back you deny them a chance to be better.

What you have to offer is unique, authentic, and valuable.

Don’t rob the world. Express yourself!!!
