The Olympic Lesson
Have you ever considered what it takes to represent a country at the Olympics?
Recently, I came across the story of an Olympian who had to creatively source funding because his country failed him.
It got me thinking about how much passion it takes to fuel that kind of dream.
But it wasn’t just his passion that struck me.
As I watched the video, I was shocked by the amount of preparation he had been putting in.
On average, he trained for 3 hours daily, while still working a full-time job.
So...I dug a little deeper.
The average Olympian practices for about 2-4 hours daily for years leading up to the event.
That's dedication at its finest 😅.
And yet, it's only for a brief moment of competition.
They invest so much time, effort, and resources preparing for an event that will only last minutes.
Years of preparation for minutes of competition.
It got me thinking about how most of us have goals, but only a few of us take steps to prepare.
Personally, I’m starting to prioritize preparation even more.
And no, I’m not training to be an Olympian.🙄
I’m talking about my personal goals, dreams, and ambitions.
What this practically looks like:
- Revisiting my goals often
- Saying 'No' to distractions
- Learning by taking bold steps
- Reading like my life depends on it
- Outsourcing/Uptooling to free my time
This list is based on my goals. Some of these might apply to you, and others might not.
The point is, your desired future will not just land in your hands without some preparation on your part.
As you do the work to prepare, you become worthy of the future you desire.
So here's what I want you to take with you: It's not enough to just set goals!
Goal setting without adequate preparation is like sending out wedding invitations without being in a relationship.🤣
Take the time to think of the ways you need to prepare for the specific goals you have.
Rooting for you always!!!
