No One Is Better Than You
One of my guests on the many roads podcast said something that got me thinking a while ago.
We were discussing impostor syndrome and self-esteem when he said something along the lines of ‘they are not better than you.”
It got me thinking about how some of us have lived our lives thinking others are better than us. I know this because I used to think that way.
In the past, I would compare myself to others based on money, social status, cars, jobs, achievements, etc.
To clarify, this is not about being better in skill or competency. This is regarding what our lives are worth and what we can achieve.
Growing up, anytime my sisters or I doubted ourselves and our ability to do something, my mom would say, “They don’t have two heads.” Meaning that those who are currently doing what you plan to do are not special. If they can figure it out, so can you.
It is a prideful thing to believe your results are not replicable. But, it’s also a limiting belief to go through life assuming that others are ‘better’ than you.
Having a mindset that recognizes that you are superior to no one and inferior to no one will serve you best.
But let’s be clear, the difference between us and anyone who seems to be ahead of us is experience and opportunity.
And we have not all been given the same experiences and opportunities. So it would be wrong to compare and judge your results based on someone else’s.
What I’m saying is, don’t compare apples with potatoes.😅
The people we look up to in society have dared to believe in themselves and that they have something the world needs.
So I’ll tell you what I’ve been repeating to myself these past few months:
- Dare to believe in yourself and that you have something the world needs.
- You are superior to none and inferior to none.
Don’t let anyone treat you any less, and remember to treat others with respect.
Rooting for you always!
