Don’t Let Who You’ve Been, Stop Who You’re Becoming

I remember when I thought anyone older than 30 was old.

Well, I turned 30 last week, and it got me thinking: Am I old now? My wife even sent me a meme about 30+ old people waking up with random body pains 😅.

I know… I’m not old, but it got me thinking about how life is in seasons and how quickly they come and go.

Not many years ago, I would stay up late and binge-watch any TV show I wanted. I tried doing this some weeks ago and genuinely felt sick for two days 😂

In another season, I practiced bass guitar daily for two to three hours, five days a week.

The beautiful yet difficult thing about life is that seasons will always change.

Each season comes with a different set of focus and priorities.

However, it's on you to recognize the season you are in and identify what you are supposed to be doing.

For a couple of weeks before my 30th, I was struggling internally.

I'll be honest, I was grieving.

Okay, I'll be more honest. I'm still grieving.

I am grieving the previous season. The one in which I got to play a whole lot more bass guitar and went to gigs across the city. I miss music!

Anyone who knows me knows that music has been a part of my journey for over 15 years. Yet in this season, I know if I hold on to it, it will affect the focus of this season.

This is not a goodbye to music; it's a see you later.

This might look different for you. Maybe you are not into music, but maybe this season has you working more, and you no longer have time to watch your favourite cooking shows.

Life is in seasons, and if you are going to win, you must identify what the main focus is and avoid distractions.

Just to be clear, yesterday's focus can easily be today’s distraction.

Identify the focus of the current season/phase/stage of life you are in and zero in on that.

You are becoming… And the price to pay is to focus on what this season demands.

Don’t let who you’ve always been stop you from who you're becoming.

Rooting for you always!
