Thought: The Key to Being Unforgettable
There are two kinds of people in the world:
Those who will be remembered and those who won't.
Earlier this week, I shared the story of my first manager and how he is an unforgettable part of my career. You can watch it here and give us a follow while you are at it 😜.
In that video, I shared that one of the most efficient ways to be unforgettable is to give people opportunities.
Can you imagine:
- Playing an important role in someone’s life?
- Giving someone an opportunity they couldn’t pay you for?
From the responses I received to my story, it became clear that most people truly want to be remembered for these kinds of impacts.
Now you might be thinking, ‘Not everyone is in a position where they can give someone the opportunity of a lifetime.’
I agree. But not totally.
I believe we all have something to give and we can help people who are currently in a position or place we once were.
At the minimum, we should find a way to help those coming after us. For example: coaching juniors in high school, sharing lessons with new employees, creating and sharing a guide for a professional exam you passed, or telling people your story.
Create something that helps someone avoid your mistakes and improve on your successes.
Fasttrack someone's progress and be the reason why they get ahead in some way. They might forget it but it will bring you fulfillment beyond measure.
Also, I have to state this clearly: The reason behind giving people opportunities should not be that you want someone to thank you and recount your impact on their lives. That would be selfish!
The motivation is the impact, the role we play, and the person we become in the process. So even if the person you help never expresses gratitude or tells another person of your help, this doesn't affect you.
Our lives must count for helping others live better.
Play a part in someone else's story.
Give someone an opportunity today.
Rooting for you as always!
